On November 28, 2025, Mr. Hu Siyuan (胡思遠), a visiting scholar in the Department of Social Work at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, delivered a seminar titled “Regional Practice and Development of Mental Health Medical Social Workers: A Case Study of Hongkou District, Shanghai.” The seminar systematically reviewed Hongkou District’s development in this field over the past decade, from its initial exploration to practical implementation.

Ten years ago, the first mental health social worker from Hongkou District studied at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, marking the start of Hongkou’s exploration of mental health services. As an introduction, Mr. Hu outlined the origins of professional social work exchanges between Shanghai and Hong Kong. He then detailed the development of mental health medical social work in Hongkou District over the past decade, with particular focus on the establishment and implementation of the “Tongxin Yuan” (同心圓) brand service at the Hongkou District Mental Health Center. The hospital once located on Tongxin Road, Shanghai, the hospital puts patients first, with social work services always by their side. He traced the service’s growth and offered insights into the future direction of mental health services.

The seminar drew approximately 50 professionals, practitioners, scholars, and students both online and offline, and provided valuable insights for attendees interested in this field.
