Through examining the situations of women and people of diverse gender identities in local and global contexts, this seminar course aims to develop students’ interest and understanding towards different trending gender issues and integrating these issues in social welfare policymaking and social work practices. Critical concepts in social work, such as social justice, equality, power and empowerment, would be re-examined and analysed under various gender discourses. Students would then acquire skills and knowledge on assessing social policy and social work practices from a gender perspective, and be able to integrate global gender debates in local policy agenda and social work practices.
