This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of evidence-based and innovative practices essential for supporting clients in their trauma recovery journey. Students will investigate the complex nature of trauma and its significant impact across the lifespan, beginning with early attachment experiences. The curriculum delves into the neurobiology of trauma, elucidating the brain structures and neurochemical changes involved in trauma responses. Students will gain in-depth knowledge and skills in trauma-informed practices, assessment, and therapeutic interventions. A distinctive feature of this course is the integration of advanced therapeutic modalities to treat trauma, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), expressive arts therapy, and family-based trauma-informed practices. Students will explore the theoretical foundations and practical applications of these approaches through case studies and hands-on exercises, ultimately promoting more holistic and sustainable outcomes in trauma recovery.
