Our Department is honored to have invited a distinguished scholar, Professor Wang Zheng, Professor Emerita of Women’s and Gender Studies and History at University of Michigan, U.S. to visit us from 15-18 October 2025.
During Prof. Wang’s visit, she actively engaged with our faculty members and students, providing valuable insights and knowledge through various activities. On October 16, Prof. Wang gave a seminar titled “Feminist Organized Activism in China since 1995”, she discussed changes in feminist organizing in different historical contexts in Mainland China. More than 90 faculty members and students from various disciplines attended the seminar. The seminar was intellectually stimulating and inspiring to the participants, and highlighted the role of feminist activism in shaping social change.
On October 17, the Department invited Prof. Wang to join leaders of various women’s organizations in Hong Kong for a dialogue. The panel includes Ms. Liu Si-si, Director, Hong Kong Federation of Women’s Centres; Ms. Chung Lai Shan, Programme Director, the Women’s Foundation; and two of BSSc students in the Department, Ms. FU Ka Man, Carman, and Ms. So Ka Man, Peace, co-founders of the grassroot feminist group “Feminist Dream Walking”. In the Dialogue, discussants shared their view and experience on engaging feminism in community practices. They also compared the similarity and difference of women’s organizations in Hong Kong and their peers in other parts of the world. This intergenerational and cross-sectoral dialogue offered a rare opportunity for participants to engage with practitioners and scholars in the field. Fostered a vibrant exchange of ideas and strategies, and inspired many attendants to consider new ways of practicing feminism and advocacy. More than 60 faculty members, students, and local NGO members participated the event and joined the discussion.
We sincerely thank Professor Wang for taking the time to visit us.
